Funeral Services Remember Scott County Sheriff Cody Carpenter

WALDRON, AR – Funeral services in Waldron Wednesday laid to rest Scott County Sheriff Cody Carpenter.

The 41-year-old father of four died in the line of duty last Friday while trying to rescue two women from flood waters.

Hundreds of mourners filled the Waldron High School stadium to support Carpenter’s family, say their last goodbyes, and honor the sacrifice the sheriff was willing to make.

The solemn sound of bagpipes rang through silence as part of the service.

Carpenter was remembered as a hero, giving his life to protect those he served.

“He died doing what Sheriff’s do best — and that’s helping others,” one mourner said.

That knowledge, bringing men who wear the badge, to tears, because they know it’s what their calling requires.

“Each day these men and women go out and do a service a lot of people don’t understand until they need itm” one of them says.

A band of brothers, a family not bound by blood, but honor.

“Law enforcement won’t be the same. There will be a hole in my life,” says one mourner.

They gave their final farewell to the man always ready to put himself on the line.
