Governor, New House and Senate Leaders Talk 2019 Session Priorities

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – Lawmakers convene at the state capitol Monday for the legislative session.

Governor Asa Hutchinson says it will be one of the most historic and transformative in his lifetime.

He is pushing for major agenda items, “the four Ts” transformation in state government, teacher raises, tax cuts and a transportation plan.

The latter, highway funding, is the only one lawmakers don’t have a proposal for.

“It has to be a big plan. Of course, my definition of a big plan is $200 million, but the definition of other people with a big plan is $400 million,” says Gov. Asa Hutchinson.

Lawmakers are working toward more long term highway funding that could be a combination of solutions passed by the legislature and presented to Arkansas voters.
