LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — Sharpen your Number 2 pencils and get excited, because today is National Voter Registration Day.
Across Arkansas and the U.S., Americans are being reminded to register to vote. The day has even spawned it’s very own hashtag, #RegisterToVote.
It’s all part of a nationwide social media campaign to remind folks of the upcoming November election.
Here in Little Rock, Jason Kennedy, with the voter registration office at the Pulaski Circuit County Clerk’s Office, is excited.
“Well today is a holiday of sorts around here,” says Kennedy, Chief Deputy Clerk for the voter registration department.
He reminds folks that although there isn’t a government-sponsored site to register online, his office aims to make the process simple.
“It’s very easy,” he explains. “Just go to our website and you can download a form there or come in person and we can help you.”
Kennedy says the entire process takes no more than five minutes, but more importantly, your vote can help make a difference.
“It’s really important to vote especially in off-year elections because you’re actually impacting the outcome of the elections far more because fewer people are voting – making your vote all that more valuable” Kennedy explains.
Kennedy and his staff enjoy helping thousands of Arkansans register in order for them to be able to exercise their right vote come this November.
“Registering to vote is very important because you’re talking about millions of dollars being spent and this is your opportunity to have a say in how it is spent,” Kennedy says.
The deadline for registering to vote by mail or in person is Tuesday,,Oct. 9. Election Day is Tuesday, Nov. 6.
