LITTLE ROCK, Ark– A post circulating on social media prompted fight club fears district-wide at Little Rock Schools Friday.
Little Rock Police are calling the post a hoax. The picture below shows wording that entices students to fight anytime and anywhere.
The post spread to Instagram, Snapchat, and Facebook, making it difficult for police to figure out where it came from.
“That’s something that’s always difficult with social media is not knowing how many eyes it’s hit,” explained Lt. Michael Ford. “With today’s times, you have to take every allegation or anything that you see on social media seriously.”
Fox 16 spoke with one LRSD parent who found the post troubling.
“Even if it is a joke it still should be followed up and that child should be held accountable for that,’ said LRSD parent, Ariel Harper.
Detectives are investigating the message saying it’s hard to know how many people are considering it as a prank or legitimate. Either way, Harper fears some will act on it.
” I also think that some kids would take it as a challenge,” said Harper.
LRSD released a statement today saying, “The Little Rock School District has been made aware of a social media threat regarding fighting. While we have no reason to believe the threat is credible, we must and do take all threats seriously. We are following our protocols and working with police as they investigate the source of the social media post. It is our commitment to maintain school environments that are safe and conducive to learning. It takes all of us working together to ensure that our schools are safe.”
