Jacksonville Searching For Reputable Pit Bull Rescue

JACKSONVILLE, AR — The city of Jacksonville is looking for a reputable pit bull terrier rescue organization to give that breed a second chance at life.

Right now, pit bull terriers are banned in Jacksonville. If they come to the shelter…and an owner does not get the dog…it will be euthanized.

Just last week though, city council passed a new law that allows the dogs to be placed in the care of a rescue organization outside of city limits. Problem right now is, it’s not easy to find one.

Jacksonville Animal Shelter Director Hedy Wuelling said, “It’s hard because it’s really hard to find one that’s worked a long time with a breed like that. And, most rescues here in Arkansas that work with them are full or have a waiting list and no foster homes.”

The search will continue for a pit bull terrier rescue organization. In the meantime, that breed of dog will continue to be euthanized in Jacksonville.
