CLEBURNE COUNTY, Ark. – A Scott man has died in a kayaking accident north of Heber Springs.

The Cleburne County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) identifies him as Lendon Brewer, 54.

A CCSO news release issued Tuesday states that deputies were called to JFK park on Friday evening where the man had been reported missing on the Little Red River.

Witnesses told deputies that Brewer had gone out on the water around 6 p.m. but had not returned.

Rescue crews from the Sheriff’s Office, Arkansas Game and Fish, Wilburn Fire, Tumbling Shoals/Ida Fire, and Northstar EMS responded to the scene and recovered the man’s body a short time later.

The incident is still under investigation, however, his death is presumed to have been accidental. This marks the first drowning death of 2017 in Cleburne County.
