Liability of the moving company

A moving company should explain its liability policy under federal regulations for any loss or damage to your property. In addition to the company’s basic liability, other options are available for increasing the amount of coverage you can place on your possessions. Be sure to have your mover go over these options so you can determine the type of coverage that best meets your needs. In addition, if you are moving any items which may be of delicate nature or high value, you may want to have them professionally appraised before they are moved. It isn’t necessary to unpack all of your items upon arrival at your destination; however, it is a good idea to check all of your boxes for any obvious damages to them. If damages do occur, leave damaged items in their original shipping boxes and do not throw away any broken pieces until after a claim has been settled with the moving company. Please check with a moving company for more information on their liability policy.
