LITTLE ROCK, Ark.– “She was like Tre just got shot and I dropped the phone,” Tywania Rhodes said.
No mom should have to spend 48 hours like Tywania Rhodes has.
“I was devastated, I was sitting there and couldn’t move,” Rhodes said.
In that time she learned her 19-year-old son Deontre Rhodes had been shot while walking along John Barrow Road, that he’d undergone emergency surgery and that it wouldn’t be successful.
“He was just laying there in a lot of blood,” Rhodes said.
“She told us last night that he wasn’t going to make it probably through the morning,” Rhodes said.
After all of that, Rhodes had to make a decision Wednesday morning no mom should ever have to consider.
“I said I’d rather for him to die on his own,” Rhodes said.
If losing her teenager isn’t tough enough, knowing he leaves behind his own son makes the loss even greater.
“He was always smiling and had a lot of friends,” Rhodes said.
If there’s one thing this mom has learned the last two days, its that violence can happen in seconds and change lives forever.
“I just wish they would put these guns down, put them down,” Rhodes said.
