BENTON COUNTY, Ark. (KNWA) – An elderly woman has died in an early morning house fire in Northwest Arkansas.

The Rogers Fire Department says the blaze in the 8700 block of Haven Drive was reported around 3:30 a.m. Wednesday by someone driving by on Highway 12 who saw a red glow.

The house was engulfed in flames and the roof had already collapsed in when crews arrived on the scene.

Firefighters then worked to make sure the fire did not spread to any nearby homes.

Rogers Fire Department Battalion Chief David Whitlow says they did face some difficulties battling the flames.

“Water supply was a challenge here. Out in the county there’s not as good of a water supply, so we were having to use tenders from the volunteer fire departments to maintain water supply and we also hooked up to the hydrant,” he said.

The Benton County Fire Marshal is investigating the fire’s cause.

The victim has been identified as Betty L. Morris, 94.
