PULASKI COUNTY, Ark.- Members of the Pulaski County Sheriff's Office received an extra layer of protection Friday, thanks to a donation.
Three K-9 officers were issued bullet-proof vests.
The donation was made by the 60th chapter of the Fraternal Order of Eagles.
Sheriff Eric Higgins says the vests are critical, especially what the K-9's do to protect and serve.
"Last year, we had nationally, 27 K-9s die in the line of duty, and 10 of them died because they were shot," says Sheriff Higgins.
The vests cost a total of $4,200.
As a result of the donation, every K-9 in the sheriff's office is now equipped with a bulletproof vest.
