LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – The race is on to fill former State Representative Charles Blake’s seat for District 36.

On Tuesday, Roderick Talley, Phillip Hood, and Darrell Stephens–who ran against Blake in the last primary election–have officially announced with more candidates expected to come.

Former Rep. Charles Blake stepped down from his seat earlier this month and was named as the chief of staff for the Little Rock mayor’s administration.

District 36 encompasses a part of Little Rock and a portion of Pulaski County.

“Leader Blake left big shoes to fill and I expect voters in Little Rock will have several excellent choices. The Party is excited about this special primary election and anticipates high turnout,” the Arkansas Democratic Party said in a statement.

The Arkansas Republican Party says a couple of Republicans are interested in running but haven’t decided or announced.

Both parties will hold a primary, just waiting on the governor’s office to set a date.
