NORTH LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — For the fourth year people gathered at Burns park to bring awareness to the fight against colon cancer.
The “Get Your Rear in Gear 5K” took place Saturday morning.
Around 150 runners joined survivors and advocates for the event.
Event Director Frankie Melendez says the purpose of the event is to get the word out about colon cancer prevention, and make people aware that early detection is key when it comes to fighting the disease.
The Colon Cancer Coalition says that when caught early, colon cancer is highly treatable.
When found in its earliest stages, the five-year survival rate is 90%.
