PARIS, Ark. – A Greenwood woman has pleaded guilty to manslaughter in the 2014 death of her child.
Brooke Floyd was sentenced this morning to 10 years probation and a $1,000 fine.
She was arrested in August 2014 after an incident that led to the deaths of her 10-month-old son Harper Floyd and husband Brian Floyd, 33.
Officials said last year that the infant died of “exposure and abandonment,” following an allegedly drug-induced incident in the Ouachita Mountains outside Danville. Floyd was not charged in her husband’s death..
“Today’s plea is a recognition of the terrible situation Brooke’s husband put her in and the tremendous improvement Brooke has made in her life since the incident. This agreement allows her to continue moving forward under the court’s supervision. We appreciate the prosecutor for recognizing the efforts Brooke has made to turn her life around,” said Bill James, Floyd’s attorney.
After her arrest, Floyd told deputies she and her husband had taken meth before driving with their son into a remote area off a road where their truck broke down.
Floyd’s arrest affidavit states that she and her husband had been hallucinating and believed they were being attacked by people following behind them and that they had tried to escape.
