We will have more details as they become available.
STUTTGART, Ark. -- 46 year old David Chastain, an auxiliary deputy with the Arkansas County Sheriff's Office was arrested Tuesday by the FBI.
The FBI will not comment on the nature of the arrest.
Arkansas County Sheriff Todd Wright confirmed Chastain's arrest and subsequent suspension from the agency. However, he says he does not know what his deputy is accused of doing.
"I was floored," Wright said of hearing the news. "I think my whole department was floored."
Chastain is an unpaid, part-time deputy who came on board at the beginning of the year after retiring as a special agent with state police.
"One of the best narcotics guys I've ever seen," Wright explained. "It shocked us all."
We're told Chastain works with the Tri-County Drug Task Force, covering Arkansas, Jefferson, and Lincoln counties.
As of Tuesday night, the deputy was behind bars at the Pulaski County jail, awaiting an appearance in federal court. No word yet on when that will happen.
