POPE COUNTY, Ark. – A weekend drowning has claimed the life of a young girl.
The Pope County Sheriff’s Office says deputies were called to the Illinois Bayou on SR 164 North around 8:45 p.m. Sunday.
According to family members, the girl is 10 years old and she was with her biological father.
The initial call stated the victim had been swept downstream while swimming.
The Pope County OEM Swift Water Rescue was notified and also responded along with other local crews.
Search efforts continued until about 2:30 a.m. Monday and resumed at around 8:30. Shortly after 10 a.m., the child’s body was found by divers.
