Conway schools add more community storm shelters

Local News

Conway,Ark.- New storm shelters will soon open in Conway.

Since 2005 the Conway School District has worked to build one at every elementry and middle school in this district. Currently one is in the finishing stages at Bob Courtway Middle School.

According to the district shelters are built to withstand an EF-5 torando with winds of up to 250 miles per hour.

“It is connected with our emergency system so when there is a torando warning issues the doors will unlocked so our community can come in and be in a safe place,” explained Jason Lawerence with Conway Public Schools.

Once the last two under construction are completed 13 schools will have them.
The city encourages you to have a plan and always know where your nearest shelter is.
