LITTLE ROCK, Ark. - Work begins today on a stretch of I-630. This will affect anyone driving in either direction between Baptist Health and University Avenue. That part of the interstate will be widened from six to eight lanes.
Starting tonight, traffic will be reduced to one lane in each direction from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m.
This will extend from University Avenue all the way to the Big Rock Interchange every night this week until Saturday.
All six lanes will be open during the day.
The Arkansas Department of Transportation (ARDOT) has set up a special traffic cameras to show a live feed of this construction zone.
"Folks just need to understand that the route they are used to taking through Midtowne is about to drastically change," says Danny Straessle, ARDOT Spokesperson.
This weekend, crew will demolish the Hughes Street overpass. It will take three months to rebuild so it can accommodate the expansion.
