Explosion, Fire Destroys 20 Buses in Springdale

Local News

SPRINGDALE, Ark. (KNWA) – A local bus service has lost 20 of its 24 vehicles after an early morning explosion and fire.

Officials with the Springdale Fire Department (SFD) say the blaze broke out at Ozark Regional Transit (ORT) around 2 a.m. Tuesday.

When crews arrived, they found the 20 buses in flames. It took multiple hose lines and thousands of gallons of water to bring the fire under control.

The SFD says the fire started in the facility’s southwest end and it was spread by high winds. While arson is not suspected the fire’s cause is not yet known.

The Texas-based South West Transit Association is putting out a plea to regional transit authorities for loaner buses after the ORT fleet fire.
