NORTH LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – Arkansas State Police are looking for a driver who hit a man on a bike and took off.
On Thursday, September 13, Richard Johnson was riding his bike on Highway 161 near Rixie Road in Pulaski County something he does often.
“I ride my bike all the time. I have my safety jacket on all the time and my flash light with me,” said Johnson.
Thursday was different. He says out of nowhere a white truck swerved, hit him, and took off. Now Johnson is in a hospital bed in Little Rock with road rash, fractures, and scrapes.
“If he wasn’t drunk he should have stopped and tried to help me,” expressed Johnson.
The accident reports show a near by driver followed the truck from the scene and wrote down a plate.
Johnson was later told by authorities those plates do not match a driver.
Monday family members surrounded Johnson’s hospital bed as he waits to learn when he will have surgery.
“I’m still trying to wrap my head around it…how do you run over someones son…father brother uncle over and still go to sleep at night. They left him for dead,” said Johnson’s daughter, Andrea Offord.
Offord says she is still in disbelief but is happy her father is still alive. She hopes the person will come forward.
“Turn yourself in you made a mistake. We all make mistakes. We know it was a white truck. We know that the tag wasn’t right but you can make it right,” said Offord.
Those thoughts echoed by Johnson from his hospital bed.
“I pray to the lord that he gets caught.”
Johnson is scheduled to have two surgeries. As of right now Arkansas State Police have no suspects but if you have any information about this accident you are encouraged to contact them.
