Local News

A 27-year-old man is dead after lightning struck while he worked on a water main project in Maumelle Friday.

Family is remembering Tyler Grisham as a devoted husband and father to his 2 young daughters.

“He was one in a million,” said Grisham’s Father-in-law Wade Boughner. “Whatever you needed Tyler was there.”

Boughner says his family’s world shattered when they got the news.

“He was here one minute and then just blink of an eye he’s gone. He never even had a chance,” Boughner said.

Grisham died at a local hospital early Saturday morning. Family says the Cabot native was doing contract work for RedStone Construction Friday afternoon when lightning hit a tree he was standing near.

“They said that they just couldn’t do anything, that the lightning strike had wreaked too much havoc on his body,” Boughner added.

The job site off Coronado Cove in Maumelle was quiet Saturday.

Neighbors like Jim Thompson in shock over what happened in their backyards.

“It was a loud boom, almost like a bomb,” Thompson said. “We looked out the front and we could see some of the workers, we could see them scurrying around a little bit.”

Thompson says the storm moved in quickly, but he can’t stop wishing he could have done more to help.”

“People don’t realize how quickly you can be here and be gone in a matter of seconds,” he added.

Boughner says that’s been one of the hardest parts for his family.

“We walk out of these houses every day thinking we’re going to be back in the evening,” he said.

Knowing Tyler died trying to provide for his family, who he always put first.

“You want your daughter to marry someone better than you, and he definitely, he’s a better man than I am,” Boughner said.
