Hot Springs Police make arrest in July 4 homicide

HOT SPRINGS, Ark.  (News release) — On July 4, at 10:00 a.m., officers with the Hot Springs Police Department responded to the intersection of Mica and Maiden Street, in reference to a welfare check on a car parked with a male subject inside. Upon arrival, officers found a man, later identified as Tristan Smith, 23 of Hot Springs dead from an apparent gunshot wound.

On July 7, Detectives with the Hot Springs Police Department arrested Christopher Gipson, 20 of Hot Springs for the murder of Tristan Smith.

Gipson has been charged with Capital Murder (Y Felony), Aggravated Robbery (Y Felony) and Theft by Receiving (D Felony).

Gipson is currently held at the Garland County Detention Center on zero bond.

HOT SPRINGS, Ark. – Officers with the Hot Springs Police Department responded to the intersection of Mica and Maiden Street on July 4, at 10:00 a.m. in reference to a welfare check on a car parked with a man inside.

Once officers arrived they found a man, later identified as 23-year-old Tristan Smith of Hot Springs in the backseat.

Smith was found dead from an apparent gunshot wound.

Detectives are currently following up on several leads and interviewing witnesses.
