LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – Two Little Rock Police officers are being commended for jumping into action to save a woman from drowning in the Arkansas River.
It happened Friday.
The woman seemed to be suffering from a mental episode.
The officers tried to get her to return to shore–and even threw her a life jacket.
Instead she swam towards the dangerous, deep current.
Without hesitation, one of the officers jumped in and pulled her to shore while the other grabbed a canoe to assist.
“I think they did a tremendous job by RISKING their own lives by going out in the river,” says Officer Steve Moore.
The officers involved are officers Aaron Manning and Jason Knowles and Sergeant Shawn Regean.
All are members of LRPD’s River Market Unit.
They’re credited with saving the woman’s life.
She was treated and sent for mental evaluations.
