DARDANELLE, Ark. — A 10-year-old boy and his father were found shot to death in an apparent murder suicide in Dardanelle Monday night.
Police say a relative found them in a home on S. 3rd St.
Interaction between neighbors on Linda Holiman’s street has an old-fashioned feel.
“The neighbors over here… were always real nice to me, helped me with my yard,” Holiman said.
She says a man and his son raked her leaves and mowed her lawn just to help out.
“I couldn’t be more grateful to anybody that comes and does all kinds of work like that,” she said.
But this normally peaceful Dardanelle neighborhood took a dark turn Monday night.
“I was on the porch and I heard sirens and I saw the police come flying down the street,” Holiman said.
Soon after, she started hearing from concerned family and friends.
“She says ‘you better lock up Miss Linda, seems like there’s a murderer around,'” Holiman said a friend texted her.
Dardanelle Police say it was an apparent murder-suicide at the home on S. 3rd St.
“It was scary, I could hardly sleep last night after all that!”
Those involved are believed to be the ones who had helped Holiman, including the 10-year-old boy.
Police say the man who found them was the boy’s grandfather and the man’s father.
Both were killed by a single gunshot.
“That really got to me when they said well, he’s right next door, and I’m thinking, not that little boy! You know? It just breaks my heart,” Holiman, a retired teacher said.
Heart broken and confused with so many questions left unanswered.
The names of the deceased have not been released.
Their bodies were sent to the Arkansas State Crime Lab.
Police say there is no threat to the public but are continuing to investigate what led up to the shootings.
