NEWPORT, Ark. – A local man is being held on $100,000 bond after being accused in the stabbing of his ex-girlfriend.

In a news release issued Wednesday, the Newport Police Department said Eric Dinwiddie, 28, faces charges of Kidnapping, Domestic Battery and Intimidating a Witness in the case.

The woman told police the incident happened after she ran into Dinwiddie as she walked down Dewey Street. Police said she was stabbed in the buttocks but there was no word on her condition.

The victim told police Dinwiddie had pulled a knife on her before forcing her to go to an abandoned house where he threatened to kill her if she testified against him in an upcoming trial for a previous domestic violence incident. She said he forced her to go to another place, where the stabbing occurred.

The attack was reported shortly before 8:45 p.m. after the woman told police she was able to get away from Dinwiddie and run to her house.

Police say minutes later Dinwiddie came to the Jackson County Detention Center and turned himself in. He appeared in Jackson County District Court Wednesday morning.
