Plane Crash in Pope Co. Kills Pilot, Passengers

Local News
POPE COUNTY, Ark. — Off of Highway 64 in Pottsville, Pope County deputies still line the road.

Carroll Lathan resides in the community and like many others in Pope County, is full of questions. What is known is the plane crashed into the front yard of a home around 8 a.m.

Investigators said the plane had just left the Russellville airport and was headed to Knoxville, Tenn. when it went down–killing the pilot and three passengers.

“Everyone is trying to determine or wondering what went wrong,” said Lathan.

“There are families here that have been devastated this morning and we need to keep them in our prayers.” said Sheriff Shane Jones.

Family members of the victims were at the Russellville airport on Thursday and said they are in shock.

That same shock felt by those who didn’t even know the victims.

“It’s just a sad situation,” said Lathan.

Friends and family tell us the 4 who died in the accident are Robert Harris, Wesley Harris, Julie Lefevre, and Philip Cowger.

Those names have not been released by law enforcement and won’t be until positive identification has been made by the medical examiner, which could take a few days.
