SALINE COUNTY, Ark. – Shannon Hills Mayor Mike Kemp has been arrested for Burglary and Theft of Property.

That’s according to the Saline County Sheriff’s Office.

An arrest affidavit states that the charges stem from Kemp going into a rental home he owns on Allen Drive and allegedly removing personal property belonging to a woman who was living there.

Kemp, 61, is accused of coming in unannounced with two other individuals and removing two televisions and a microwave worth a total value of $850.

The tenant, Amber Rogers, told the Shannon Hills Police Department she was behind in her rent but said she had been making payments to an apparent associate of Mayor Kemp.

Kemp reportedly said no vacate notice had been issued when he told a police sergeant that he was going to remove more of the woman’s property from the house after stating he had already removed some of her belongings.

When the police sergeant told Kemp he could not hold the renter’s property, Kemp allegedly replied “I don’t need to hear that,” adding “We did not talk about renters today.”

Kemp’s arrest affidavit also notes that the woman accused him of making racist remarks about her children.

A Pulaski County Special School District spokesperson released the following statement in regards to Mayor Mike Kemp’s arrest.

“The Pulaski County Special School District board members, and our administration, were made aware of the allegations against Mayor Kemp late this afternoon. Needless to say, we are taken aback and are awaiting further information. We are currently unable to reach Mayor Kemp. The Board will monitor the situation and take appropriate steps if and when it is necessary.”
