UPDATE: Arrest Made in June Kensett Homicide

KENSETT, Ark.- A Searcy man has been arrested in connection with the murder of Donovan Branch back in June. 

White County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested, Stacey Mitchell, 43, on Thursday in connection to the June 21 murder.

The Arkansas State Crime Lab confirmed through evidence that, Mitchell was the suspect.

Mitchell is currently being held on a $50K bond on charges of Homicide and possession of a firearm by certain persons.

He is set to return to court on December 5 of this year at 9 a.m.


KENSETT, Ark. – A 24-year-old’s death is being investigated as a homicide after he was found dead in a local street early Wednesday morning. 

Just after 1 a.m., officers with the Kensett Police Department were called to the 500 block of Dr. Martin Luther King Drive for an unknown problem.

When officers arrived, they saw a wounded black male lying in the street. He was pronounced dead at the scene by EMS. 

The victim was identified as Donavan L. Branch, 24, of Kensett.

As the death became considered a homicide, the Kensett Police Department requested help from the White County Sheriff’s Office (WCSO) in investigating the incident. 

White County Sheriff’s Department Criminal Investigation Division detectives were called to process the scene. 

A person if interest was found and detectives are speaking with the person. The person has not been arrested in connection to the incident.

The body will be sent to the Arkansas Medical Examiner’s office for a complete autopsy to determine the cause of death.
