LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – You can see a Hall High School basketball player sweeping the court, not for cleaning purposes, after beating their rival minutes before.
“I think it’s boys being boys,” says a Little Rock School District graduate.
When the game ended Tuesday night, there was no after party. Cell phone video captures Parkview Patriots and Hall High Warriors tense up..
“A rivalry basketball game,” says one woman.
Little Rock Police say no punches were thrown, but Little Rock School District officials say they’re launching an investigation.
Some say players should be suspended.
“They got out there clowning like that,” says one man.
“I don’t necessarily think they should be suspended. They may need something, but not necessarily suspension. Particularly when it wasn’t an actual fight,” says a LRSD graduate.
The confrontation comes days after a fight in Northwest Arkansas between two high schools, where several players were suspended.
In Tuesday’s brawl, cell phone video captures a Hall High player cutting down the net from Parkview’s hoop.
“I’m a Parkview grad, ’72,” says Lewis Hill.
Hill says things like this lead to feuds off the court.
“You’re going to come across these students on the street and everything like that, and that leads to other things,” says Hill.
While Hall celebrates the 57-43 win, Hill says it comes down to being a good sport, even against one of your biggest crosstown rivals.
“I believe we were better than Hall at that time; however, Hall did inquire some better players and they became a better team,” says Hill.
School officials say after its investigation, it will take appropriate action.
Jacksonville will play Hall High School later this week, the winner of that will advance to the State Championship.
