WEBBERS FALLS, Okla. – Two untethered barges on the Arkansas River slammed into a dam early Thursday afternoon.
Both of them sank very soon after the impact.
It appeared that the dam’s structure remained intact but there’s not yet been any official word on that.
The barges had broken loose from the Port of Muskogee on Wednesday as water levels increased in the river.
On Wednesday, officials ordered the town of Webbers Falls evacuated after the barges headed down the swollen river.
