Lonoke Co. Detectives Search for County’s Most Wanted Man

LONOKE, AR–Lonoke County authorities are on a manhunt for a suspect they’re calling armed and dangerous.

Monday investigators explained how they lost track of the county’s most wanted man after a high speed chase roughly two months ago.

Acting on arrest warrant Lonoke county authorities tried to stop 33-year-old Joseph Brackett on a traffic October 4th.He took deputies on a 25 minute chase through two counties before he crashed in the woods and was airlifted to the hospital. That’s the last time they saw him.

“In both lanes, oncoming traffic two lane roads. Pretty much doing everything they could to try to lose us at one point,” Captain Kevin McCoy says, recalling a chase that saw him driving over 100 miles an hour to catch the county’s most wanted man.

“That, in my 17 years in law enforcement is my wildest scariest pursuit I’ve ever been in,” he adds.

Captain Mccoy, the Sheriff and another deputy chased the suspect from Lonoke County to Pulaski County and back. Twenty-five minutes in, Brackett wrecked in the woods.

His injuries were so severe he was airlifted to the hospital where he stayed in critical condition over a month.

Captain McCoy says they checked on Brackett multiple times and told the hospital to call before releasing the suspect, wanted for housing stolen weapons, but the call never came.

“We ended up calling one day and they said he was released. It was just a miscommunication,” says Capt. McCoy.

The major mix-up put a man, now wanted for stolen guns drugs and fleeing back on the streets.

“Here we go again,” he says.

This time authorities are planning for the worst knowing Brackett is armed and willing to go to dangerous lengths to evade arrest.

“We’re a step behind him, he’s hid good but I do believe he’s in Lonoke county,” says McCoy.
