CABOT, Ark. – A Lonoke woman shares her story on Facebook after her brother’s killer has asked for clemency.
Thirty years ago, 16-year-old Rodney Spence was shot dead and tossed in a ditch off Old Yielding Road. His killer now hoping to be released from prison.
In her post, she pleas to the Institutional Release Services to keep Steven McArthur behind bars.
“This cannot happen allowing somebody go who has brutally murdered …,” said the victim’s sister, Angela Spence Cooper.
We reached out The Arkansas Parole Board chair, John Felts, and he said in his 20 years the governor has never granted clemency to anyone convicted of capital murder.
While Angela is fearful, she believes the power of a Facebook post will help keep her brother’s killer where he belongs.
“It gives me hope. It gives me my family friends and people in the community hope,” said Cooper.
Cooper’s post now has over 140 shares on Facebook. The post asks the community to contact the parole board with their concerns about the possibility of McArthur’s release.
