LITTLE ROCK, AR — Friday marked the deadline for tenants to be out of the Stonecrest apartments in Little Rock.

Last week, the city deemed the complex a threat to the health, safety, and welfare of the inhabitants.  A judge ordered the empty apartments be boarded up until the owner brings it up to code.

Tenants say they’ve had to deal with maintenance and safety issues, and the owner has ignored their requests.

This order by the judge has left them scrambling.

“It’s very frustrating, especially when you’re working with a little bit of money. Nobody wants to accept you because you don’t have everything, and they’re not understanding our situation and it’s not our fault,” said Shonda Blackwell.

The owner can reopen the complex if inspectors see he has brought the building up to code.
