LRPD warns of buying risks from online markets

News

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – Buyer beware, that’s what the Little Rock Police Department is warning people of after a string of armed robberies happened from attempted iPhone purchases being sold on social media.

One of the victims told LRPD he was instructed to meet the seller at their apartment complex to exchange the cash for the iPhone.

However, when the seller appeared, he had no phone but instead, a gun pointed at the victim’s head.

“Just be kind of leery when people … when they don’t want to meet halfway to somewhere you feel comfortable. that should through up some red flags,” says LRPD Lieutenant Michael Ford Jr.

Police want to remind you to always use caution when dealing with anyone selling items online.

A couple of tips: look at how long the social media profile has been active and always ask to meet the seller at a police station.
