Man Dies after Traffic Stop in Magnolia, Police Say

MAGNOLIA, Ark. – The Arkansas State Police is investigating the death of a man who had been pulled over in a local traffic stop on Thursday morning.

A news release issued by the Magnolia Police Department (MPD) on Friday morning revealed details.

The man is identified as Cornelius D. Young, 36, of Rosston (Nevada County).

Young had been pulled over on Smith St. for alleged traffic violations.

“During the stop, Young began to show signs of physical distress. Officers called for EMS to assist Young. Young was transported by Columbia County Ambulance Service to Magnolia Regional Medical Center. Young passed away at Magnolia Regional Medical Center,” the release states.

The release continues, “Because the medical condition was observed during the traffic stop, and the cause of his condition is not known, Magnolia Police Chief Todd Dew requested the Arkansas State Police to investigate.”

Young’s body has been sent to the Arkansas State Crime Lab as part of the investigation.
