Man Dies in Bentonville Plane Crash

News

BENTONVILLE, Ark. – A man has died in the crash of a small plane at the Bentonville Municipal Airport.

The first calls reporting an explosion, fire and smoke at the scene came in shortly before 10 a.m. Wednesday.

Officials say the plane was taking off and crashed into a hanger. The victim was the pilot and the only person on board the plane. On Wednesday afternoon, he was identified as Rex Grimsley, 70, of Bentonville.

Reports indicate the pilot was trying to lift the nose of the aircraft early to avoid another plane on the runway.

The National Transportation and Safety Board is conducting the investigation into the crash.

First photos from the scene showed smoke in an area next to a hanger and later an airplane propeller could be seen on the ground next to a hanger.

Multiple fire crews responded to the incident.
