Mike Ross Pushing Education as Possible Prison Overcrowding Solution

LITTLE ROCK, AR – Democratic candidate for governor Mike Ross is pushing education as a possible solution to prison overcrowding.

Ross was speaking with those involved in continuing and adult education programs across the state committing to making GED and vocational education a priority if he’s elected governor.

Ross believes dedicating more resources to those programs could help the state’s stuffed prison system.

“If our choice is spending $100 million or spending a small fraction of that helping people get a GED. Or go to college. That saves the state a lot of money,” says Ross.

Ross says the average prisoner in the Department of Correction has an 8th grade education.

He believes better access to learning programs could alleviate on-going crime issues.
