New Development in West Little Rock

WEST LITTLE ROCK, AR — There’s major development going on in West Little Rock right now. A high-end apartment complex is under construction and two more could be on the way.

Ward Six City Director Doris Wright said, “Well, it is very exciting because when development happens that means we are progressing.”

There’s more than 30 acres of land leveled off Bowman Road. It’s for a 1,000 unit apartment complex. Wright says there’s been a great need for additional housing opportunities on the west side of the city. She expects this residential growth will spur economic growth.

Wright said, “You want to bring young people in to build up your city. That’s what any city wants.”

There are plans to build another apartment complex on Bowman Road and one more across from the Shackleford Crossing shopping center.

The Church at Rock Creek is right next to the construction zone. The senior pastor says they’re looking forward to having new neighbors.

Pastor Mark Evans said, “They’ll be able to take advantage of all the ministries here that we offer for families and children at our church.”

But for people who live across from what will be Brodie Pointe Apartments, there’s some frustration. For the past couple weeks, Greg Bowen has been waking up to loud construction.

He says, “You hear the little alarms going beep, beep, beep.”

Even after the construction’s finished, he’s concerned about more traffic and less scenery.

Bowen said, “This used to be the country, this used to not be the city.”

City Director Wright says she would like to see Bowman Road widened from Kanis to Colonel Glenn Road. She says that will help with congestion.

Construction on the new apartment complex is expected to be finished by next year.
