NORTH LITTLE ROCK, Ark.- A restaurant is reaching out to families whose lives have been devastated by violence.
On Wednesday night, Hawgz Blues Cafe in North Little Rock served dinner to people who had loved ones murdered.
The restaurant’s CEO says he was touched after seeing the story of a young mother and her two-year-old son, who was killed in December 2018.
He hopes sharing a hot meal can help heal heartache, if even just a little bit.
“I was like, we have this restaurant on the hill, people are hurting, and just because the funeral is over doesn’t mean their pain is gone,” says Kristian Nelson, the CEO of Hawgz Blues Cafe. “So, it’s just showing them that we care and bring awareness. Maybe we can stop this senseless violence. You take someone’s life, there’s no coming back from that.”
Nelson says he is going to continue to raise awareness for families of homicide victims, including another event scheduled for next Saturday.
