North Little Rock, AR — The North Little Rock School District approved spending more than a half-million dollars to buy land as construction in a major renovation project is set to begin.

The project involves demolishing buildings and building new structures in their place at North Little Rock High.  It’s expected to take four to five years to complete.

That’s why the school is spending $650,000 to buy 2.6 acres of land around the school.

With school set to begin in two and a half weeks ground work for the project is already underway.  Construction around campus will only intensify as work — including a new football stadium  — moves forward.

The extra land will be used to create new parking spots for students and staff during and after construction.

“As we move forward with staging for some of our large equipment and we start moving students across the street to Main, safety is going to be important,” said new school superintendent Kelly Rodgers.

Rogers says the district is bringing in additional staff to monitor students as they cross roads and move around heavy equipment and construction zones to make sure they stay safe.
