RUSSELLVILLE, AR — Both reactors at the Nuclear One facility remain shut down after the Easter accident that killed one employee.

According to site’s vice president Jeremy Browning, Unit 1 is in a refueling mode and Unit 2 remains in the “cold shut down” it entered into at the time of the emergency.

They say the damage to Unit 1 has not yet been assessed, so an estimated time of return to service hasn’t been determined.

Unit 2 should return to service in the next few weeks.

“I do appreciate support from the State, lots of good work being done here at Arkansas and we continue to get the support of the community and we sure appreciate that,” Browning says.

Browning says the facility was removed from a low-grade safety classification the same day as the accident.
