A woman arrested for prostitution at a west Little Rock hotel has endured a past that includes at least two runaway situations and five bookings into the Pulaski county jail, records show.

Desaray Clarke, 20, was arrested on Tuesday after she came to a room door at the Motel 6 on West Markham “completely undressed,” according to a police report.

The police report states Clarke set up a deal for sex with an undercover LRPD detective. The detective responded to an escort advertisement online and texted a phone number that replied with directions to meet at the motel, according to the report. That’s when the detective encountered Clarke and signaled for an arrest.

A search through archived reports reveals Clarke had previously been described as a runaway. Authorities in Jacksonville and Cabot issued alerts in 2014, asking for the public’s help in tracking down the then-16 year old student.

Since then, jail records show Clarke has been booked into the Pulaski county jail five times, including Tuesday’s arrest for prostitution.

“We have had that in the past where some of our runaways have turned out to be in the system for prostitution or things like that,” Officer Eric Barnes with the Little Rock Police Department says.

LRPD is considering creating educational materials to hand out to families that deal with juvenile runaways.

“We want to make sure that we give them other resources such as youth homes, counseling,” Barnes says.

The Motel 6 where Clarke was arrested is no stranger to crime. Just last month, a man was shot by police after he tried ramming into patrol cars, according to Little Rock police. Officers where in the area checking on suspcious activity, police said at the time.

“Yeah, it’s not near as safe as it used to be,” Doyle Hood says.

Hood and his family operate Hood’s Barber Shop just a few blocks east of the Motel 6 along Markham.

He doesn’t think crime in the area has become crippling, but he does see a trend in the wrong direction.

“Keep your guard up,” Doyle says.

Menawhile, Desaray Clarke remained in the Pulaski county jail on Thursday night facing charges of Prostitution, Operating a Business Without a License and Posessing Instruments of Crime, according to jail records.
