Seniors Left in the Cold Claiming Heat Broken at Apartment Complex

NORTH LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — A North Little Rock couple is frustrated they’re spending the weekend in cold, claiming the heat at their city-run apartment has been broken for weeks.

Afraid of losing their home, the couple asked Fox 16 to hide their identity. They say they’ve lived in the Willow House, which offers low-income housing for seniors, for more than 20 years. The couple says in the past few years, faulty heaters have been an ongoing problem.

“They need to fix it. I don’t have no heat. They need to fix it,” the 61-year-old wife said.

The complex is run by the North Little Rock Housing Authority. Despite making several complaints with the on-site management, the couple says heat still doesn’t flow through the vents.

“I go down and complain and they holler about how they fixing it and stuff,” the wife explained. “They just saying they going to get it fixed and stuff but they don’t ever get it fixed.”

Refusing to spend another night in the cold, the couple bought a space heater which they say is keeping their apartment warm for now. But with husband and wife both dealing with health concerns, they want a permanent fix.

“The heat it makes me feel better because I have arthritis in my hip,” the wife added.

Fox 16 News reached out to the Little Rock Housing Authority but hasn’t heard back.
