State Lawmakers Address Prison Overcrowding in Monday Meeting

LITTLE ROCK, AR – State lawmakers got a full review of options to address prison overcrowding and a continued backlog of state inmates in county jails in a legislative meeting on Monday.

The meeting included discussions of constructing a new 1,000 bed facility which could be funded by an extra $2 car tag fee.

More immediate construction alternatives included using abandoned school buildings to expand programs, considering private prison services and providing additional transitional beds across the state.
