Drones help Conway code enforcement

State News

CONWAY, Ark. –  A Faulkner County city has integrated new technology to help them with code enforcement.

Conway now utilizes a drone when needed after certain code complaints come in.

Recently the department used the drone to assess a hoarding situation where the homeowner had become confrontational.

“We are just trying to make people’s property look good,” explains one code enforcement officer.

The city says it will only use the drone in extreme situations where they cannot access the property or need to get a larger view.

“The drone would never be brought out unless it was a confirmed massive violation that they knew they weren’t going to be able to see,” says Missy Schrag, who works with the city.

In the recent case where it was used, the city submitted the footage as evidence for the courts.

The department says it hopes to invest in body cameras for its code enforcement officers for better documentation.
