JOHNSON COUNTY, Ark. - The Johnson County Sheriff's Office paid tribute to one of their own who was killed in the line of duty in May of 2015.
The office dedicated this personalized chair for Sheriff Deputy Sonny Smith.
Smith was an 11-year veteran with the office. He was shot and killed while responding to a burglary.
Several people spoke about Smith's service to his community and Johnson County.
Former Sheriff's Deputy Larry Jones says Smith was a friend, husband, and father who will always be remembered for his sacrifice.
"This dedication means a lot to me because it shows that not only people are showing their support for law enforcement but it brings the community together as we sing today," says Larry Jones.
The chair was donated to the office from Saving a Hero's Place, an organization that customizes chairs for officers killed in the line of duty.
Smith's widow and kids were presented with survivor coins and will always have access to the chair at the sheriff's office.
The reason for the smoke has not been determined.
