Testimony Begins in Conway Doctor's Sexual Assault Trial

CONWAY, Ark. - Testimony is underway in the trial of a local doctor accused of sexually assaulting some of his patients.

The trial of Dr. Robert Rook is taking place in Faulkner County Circuit Court.

In opening statements, the prosecutor outlined testimony of several accusers. Ten women allege inappropriate breast or vaginal exams where the doctor had them remove their clothes, or put on a gown and remove parts of the gown without a nurse present.

“I was in shock. A doctor is supposed to be helping you. I was in denial what was happening to me,” said a 30-year-old woman who was the first accuser to allege inappropriate breast fondling during a 2015 visit. She had been a patient of Dr. Rook's for two years. “He appeared to be enjoying what he was doing,” she continued.

At times, details of the alleged conduct seemed difficult for the jury to hear.

The state will call at least three former employees who will say the exam rooms were locked and simple appointments would take a long time.

“A majority of these accusers set appointments to come back to Dr. Rook and they came back despite what they allege in prior visits. That's odd,” said the defense.
