LITTLE ROCK, AR — This Veterans Day was extra special for some members of the Arkansas Army National Guard.

Family members were waiting at the Little Rock Airport Monday afternoon when the team of four aviators finally arrived from a tour of duty in Afghanistan.

Sgt. Dak Maulding had trouble holding back the tears when he finally got to hold his son in his arms.

He says coming home on Veterans Day made returning home extra special.

“It definitely adds to the emotion,” Sgt. Maulding says. “Everyone’s saying ‘Thank you’ when were going through the airport, you know, buying us lunch, all kinds of stuff. It’s a perfect day to come home.”

The team, which had been flying air support and reconnaissance missions in Afghanistan since February, returned to a standing ovation in the airport, with someone even buying them lunch.
