Original story:
POPE COUNTY, Ark. – A suspect is dead after being shot by a Pope County deputy after a car chase that ended in Conway County.

It happened around 11:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Arkansas State Police say the suspect, who hasn’t been identified, pulled a knife on the deputy at the end of a chase on Interstate 40 that started in Pope County and ended in Conway County. When the deputy spotted the knife, he opened fire, according to initial statements.

The suspect died on the scene. The body will be sent to the Arkansas State Crime Lab for positive identification.

No one else was injured in the shooting.

Upon completion of the investigation, state police special agents will submit an investigative file to the Pope and Conway County prosecuting attorneys for consideration to determine whether use of deadly force by a law enforcement officer was justified as defined by state laws.
