LITTLE ROCK, AR — Hillcrest homeowners want to warn everyone about the latest way thieves are getting into homes.

Crooks are cutting the wires on the outside breaker boxes to get inside.

That’s the way to disable the alarm system.  It’s happened to a few neighbors in that area.

Neighbors are urging everyone to lock the boxes and contact their security system providers to make sure they will alert the homeowner whenever there is a power outage.

“Have your alarm company send your panel to send an A/C power failure and low battery. If they don’t have that set and somebody cuts your power, no one ever gets the signal. No one knows A/C power went down,” said Ricky Mahler with Little Rock Security.

Security system companies are now offering wireless options that records data even if burglars cut off the power. This is also an additional way to protect your home when the alarm battery fails.
