Triple Fatal Accident in Polk County

LITTLE ROCK, AR – A traffic accident in Polk County has left three people dead and one injured.

It happened Monday just after 1 p.m. on Highway 71 about 11 miles south of Mena.

The Arkansas State Police (ASP) accident report identifies one of the victims as Latosha Nicole Leathers, 23, of Lockesburg (Sevier County). Two juveniles in the 2002 Ford Van she was driving also died. Their names have not been released.

The other driver, a Texas woman behind the wheel of a 1975 Peterbilt, was being treated at a Mena hospital at last report. There’s no further word on her condition.

The accident report states that Leathers’ vehicle was headed north when she lost control and rolled backwards into the southbound lane and into the path of the Peterbilt truck which was headed south.

The road was noted as wet in the report.
